One of the first questions I tend to get when conversing with client partners is about the name of our website. They’ll ask why I didn’t go with our company name, or something that’s more relevant to what we do.

My response is always the same: That question is at the core of what we do and the services we provide. There’s generally a moment of silence, and I elaborate further.

In the modern age, there’s no shortage of ideas for new products and services. According to Forbes, there’s approximately 543,000 new business started each month in the United States. All of these business began with an idea and plan of a product or service they wanted to provide. However, in that same article, it was also said that more business shutdown than start each month.

That’s a stark reality that is all too common in today’s fast paced business world. There’s probably a multitude of reasons why those business did not succeed, but if I had to guess, it’s probably because they did not ask that all important question about their idea or concept.

But will anyone buy it?

In product management, planning, or marketing, that one question should be the first one asked and answered. It starts the conversation on everything that should follow when companies or individuals are looking to start something new. The greatest idea in the world isn’t worth all that much if there’s not a market or audience for it.
